The Today Sponge contraceptive is back on the market after it disappeared from U.S. drugstore shelves. Originally on the market from 1983 to 1995, it was taken off the market by original after problems were found at the company’s factory in Hammonton – then owned by Wyeth. The new start-up is from Allendale Pharmaceuticals. The sponge was the subject of a well-known Seinfeld episode back in the 1990’s. It’s only available on the Internet now, but could be in stores within a year. In the Seinfeld episode, Elaine runs around New York seeking the sponge – her favorite method of birth control. When she gets them, she determines if a boyfriend is then “spongeworthy.”
Auto sales are down some 7% from the same time last year. Ford is flat, but GM took a 19% hit.

Fox and Marvel Enterprises settle a lawsuit over Marvel’s “Mutant X” television show. Fox claimed the program was a copy of its popular “X-Men” movie which was released in 2000 and made more than $163 million.

EBay announces plans to close its half.com web site – a site that competed with Amazon for selling books and other merchandise. Actually – used goods are bought and sold at fixed prices – hence the name “half.” Half.com began in 1999.
Microsoft has agreed to let the Chinese security experts review the source code for Windows. The company doesn’t want Linux to get a foothold.
