Wham-O, the old toy company is back. A totally new Wham-O is back in business and has just purchased Mattel’s sports division – which includes Frisbee, HulaHoop, Morey and other toys.

Technology News – April 15, 1998

A federal judge in Los Angeles rules that a Canadian firm must relinquish the avery.net and Denison.net domain names to business supplies maker Avery Dennison Corp. The firm – FreeView Listings, must sell the domain names to Avery for $300 apiece – a $200 markup over what the firm paid for them. FreeView had reserved the names, along with thousands of other common surnames seeking e-mail addresses that contain their last names. FreeView allows people who share a surname to use the same domain name for e-mail.

Intel Corp, stung my weakened demand, says it will cut 3,000 jobs.

Music news – April 15, 1998

Passing - Linda McCartney, the American photographer who married Paul McCartney. She was 56. The couple announced in December 1995 that Linda McCartney, a strident vegetarian who marketed her own meat-free dishes, was being treated for breast cancer. They had three children – Mary, Stella and James. Paul McCartney asks people wanting to send flowers in Linda’s memory should instead give a donation to charities involved in cancer research, animal welfare, or best of all, Linda’s favorite – Go veggie. Linda’s first husband was John Melvyn See, of which they had one daughter – Heather.

No Limit Records – Master P’s label, has completed its purchase of Snoop Doggy Dogg’s contract from Death Row Records.

 Did you catch VH1’s “Diva’s Live?” From New York’s Beacon Theater, the show featured Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Shania Twain and Mariah Carey. The evening ended up with all the singers teaming up on the Franklin hit (You Make Me Feel) Like A Natural Woman.  

Garth Brooks’ “Make You Feel My Love” (A Bob Dylan tune), will be shown in movie theaters as a trailer for the movie “Hope Floats.” Nice.
