The U.S. and Iraq are set for new meetings – soon – to discuss the insurgency in Iraq.

U.S. and Iraqi forces are searching for three members of a U.S. patrol apparently kidnapped by insurgents after a predawn ambush southwest of Baghdad. Meanwhile, the command in Iraq says it needs more troops to battle the upsurge in insurgent violence.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announces a new bipartisan trade policy that will ease passage of pending trade agreements with Panama and Peru and could pave the way for renewal of the president’s authority to fast track trade agreements through Congress.

Fox is gearing for another “Idol” type show – this one aimed at bands. It’s tentatively titled “The Search for the Next Great American Band” – a new talent series. The whole thing will mimic “American Idol.”

On “American Idol” – it was Barry Gibb week and worked with contestants Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks, LaKisha Jones and Blake Lewis.

Rapper Usher confirms that his mom – Jonnetta Patton is no longer in charge of his career. There is no rift – he just wants her to be his mom. 

Rapper Akon – offers an apology to a 14-year-old girl and anyone else who was offended after doing a sexually explicit dance onstage with her. He was videotaped simulating sex with the girl – who was invited onstage as part of his act after an April concert in Trinidad. The video of course – was circulated on the Internet.
