BP Plc is expected to pay a record U.S. criminal penalty and plead guilty to criminal misconduct in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster through a plea deal reached with the Department of Justice that may be announced as soon as Thursday, according to sources familiar with discussions. Three sources said BP would plead guilty in exchange for a waiver of future prosecution on the charges. 

Gaza Conflict -  Egypt tried to open a tiny window to emergency peace diplomacy in Gaza on Friday(November 16), but hopes for even a brief ceasefire while its prime minister was inside the bombarded enclave to talk to leaders of the Islamist Hamas movement were immediately dashed. Prime Minister Hisham Kandil visited the Gaza Strip officially to show solidarity with the Palestinian people after two days of relentless attacks by Israeli warplanes determined to end militant rocket fire at Israel.

Patraeus Update - Paula Broadwell reportedly vowed in an email to make Jill Kelley "go away" the New York Daily News reported Tuesday in a story offering new details about how the mistress of former CIA Director David Petraeus threatened Kelley. Kelley, a Florida socialite who sparked the Petraeus scandal, reportedly viewed the then-anonymous messages as "death threats" from someone "clearly unhinged," according to an unnamed friend who spoke to the newspaper. Broadwell wrote she would "make [Kelley] go away" in one message.

Google is investing $75 million in an Iowa wind farm as part of its effort to encourage development of cleaner energy sources. The deal gives Google Inc. a stake in the Rippey Wind Farm in Greene County, Iowa. RPM Access LLC is the primary owner. The wind farm is located about 130 miles northeast of Council Bluffs, Iowa, which is home to one of the eight data centers that power Google's Internet search engine and other services.

The struggling U.S. Postal Service on Thursday reported an annual loss of a record $15.9 billion and forecast more red ink in 2013, capping a tumultuous year in which it was forced to default on billions in payments to avert bankruptcy. The financial losses for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 were more than triple the $5.1 billion loss in the previous year.

Major banks have announced some 160,000 job cuts since early last year and with more layoffs to come as the industry restructures, many will leave the shrinking sector for good as redundancies outpace new hires by roughly two-to-one.

Cisco Systems said Sunday that it had agreed to buy Meraki for about $1.2 billion, as the networking titan continues to bolster its cloud computing services. By buying Meraki, a privately held company backed by the likes of Google and Sequoia Partners, Cisco will add products that allow networks to be controlled through the Internet.

Hewlett-Packard Co. said on Tuesday that it's the victim of a $5-billion-plus fraud, claiming a British company it bought last year lied about its finances. HP CEO Meg Whitman said executives at Autonomy Corporation PLC "willfully" boosted the company's figures through various accounting tricks, which convinced HP to pay $9.7 billion for the company in October 2011.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Tuesday it approved a seasonal flu vaccine produced by Novartis using animal cell culture rather than the traditional manufacturing using chicken eggs - a speedier process that could help build stockpiles in the event of a pandemic. The vaccine is to be sold by the Swiss drugmaker under the brand name Flucelvax.

Azaria and his How to Pictures, Inc. filed suit Wednesday against "Leap Year" actor Craig Bierko inU.S. District Court in Central California on Wednesday, saying that Bierko is jeopardizing a potential movie deal by falsely laying claim to a voice that Azaria claims he created nearly 30 years ago.

 NBC has appointed two executives to take charge of the "Today" show, a day after the television network announced that longtime producer Jim Bell would be leaving to take a larger role in the sports division. Don Nash, a broadcast producer who has worked on NBC's morning show for 23 years, will become the executive producer, reporting to Alexandra Wallace, who has been named executive in charge of the show.

Comedian Katt Williams has been arrested after a man told Oakland police that the entertainer hit him over the head with a bottle. Authorities say the 41-year-old Williams was briefly taken into custody on suspicion of assault Wednesday night after the apparent victim said he was attacked aboard a tour bus that was parked outside a downtown hotel.

Kevin Clash, the actor who created the voice and persona of Elmo on Sesame Street, resigned from the children's show in the wake of a new allegation that he had a sexual relationship with an underage boy. A federal lawsuit was filed this morning in New York, said Jeff Herman, the attorney for the second accuser, who he identified as Cecil Singleton. It was not yet known how much money Singleton sought in the suit.
