Whatever Happened To The Cast Of Friends

Friends is an American television sitcom created by Marta Kauffman and David Crane. It was aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004. It had ten seasons. The main cast starring in this season were Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer. This show revolves around six friends in their 20s and 30s living in Manhattan, New York. Friends series was produced by Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions in association with Warner Bros Television.

So, no one told you, life was going to be this way. It has been more than 25 years since Friends was first premiered. It changed the game of television sitcoms. Have you ever thought that Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston were only 24 when the series was started? After all these years, the main cast has gone through a lot of changes and appeared in different sitcoms, movies, etc.

Kauffman and Crane began developing Friends under the working title Insomnia Café in 1993. The idea was presented to Bright and then to NBC with a seven-page treatment of the show. After several rewrites, the title was changed to Friends Like Us and Six of One. In the end, Friends title was decided for the sitcom of six friends living in New York.

At the beginning of the series, Rachel left her fiancé, Barry at the altar. To be independent and not to live off her father’s wealth. As a start, she got the job at Central Perk and cut off all her credit cards. By the end of the show, she had a daughter named Emma with Ross with whom she had an on-and-off relationship throughout the series. 

Over the years, Aniston continued to show off her comedic skills with tons of movies. She starred in comedy movies such as We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses, Not That Like It That Much, and many more. Also, she has been recognized for her philanthropic efforts with St. Jude’s Research Hospital and Stand Up to Cancer. 

Aniston has always expressed her opinion on closing questions about her personal life. In 2016, she wrote a powerful essay in which she applauded people who had embarrassed her and speculated on whether or not she was pregnant. 

She was married to Brad Pritt until the time when Pitt met Angelina Jolie while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The couple got separated and she got married to Justin Theroux. In early 2018, Aniston and Theroux revealed their separation. She played a former pageant queen Rosie in a 2018 Netflix Movie named Dumplin. Also, she led the movie Murder Mystery with Adam Sandler. 

She won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in Drama Series for her Alex Levy role on Apple TV Plus’s The Morning Show. Recently, she made an appearance on Friends Reunion, an unscripted special for HBO Max. 

David Schwimmer as Ross Geller

 

Ross Geller, a paleontologist was obsessed with dinosaurs since his childhood. Since high school, Ross has had a crush on Rachel. This character was played by David Schwimmer. Ross had a son named Ben with his wife named Carol. Later on, they got divorced after learning that his wife was a lesbian. 

Ross went on to have another failed relationship with Emily, whom he married in England after a dizzying relationship. They broke up because Emily told Ross to cut off contact with Rachel, which he couldn’t. After appearing in Friends, Schwimmer appeared in Will & Grace, an NBC’s cover and film named The Laundromat in 2019. 

Also, he voiced Melman the giraffe in the Madagascar films. He played Robert Kardashian in The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story. His performance as a lawyer earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture at the 2016 awards ceremony. He had a recurring role as Debra Messing’s on-screen love interest, a blogger named Noah in the Will & Grace cover. 

In October 2018, Schwimmer’s fans could not handle the headlines of the seemingly odd resemblance of suspected criminal in Blackpool, England. Schwimmer made a parody video where he pretends to steal a crate of beers and plead not guilty. He is currently starring in a sitcom named Intelligence which was premiered Peacock in 2020.

Ross’ younger sister, Monica Geller was competitive and did not like to lose. She was a chef in the sitcom. Monica’s cleanliness and housekeeping frustrated her friends. Despite the fact, they always used to come to her apartment to go out when they were not at Central Perk. Monica and Chandler got married in the seventh season and adopted twins from a woman named Erica, played by Anna Faris. 

In the series finale, Monica and Chandler left their apartment with the iconic theme of purple to raise their children in Westchester, out of town. After Friends, she starred in her show named Cougar Town. This series ran for six seasons. It started on ABC and ending on TBS in 2015. You might have seen her on shows like Drunk History, Modern Family, and Shameless. 

In 2014, Cox got engaged to Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid. She met him through Ed Sheeran. During an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2019, she announced that she and McDaid are no longer engaged but are still together. Recently, she played Gale Weather-Riley in Scream 4. It is expected that she will reprise her role in Scream 5. 

After Friends, she is still good friends with co-stars such as Kudrow and Aniston. These three women are a part of a group chat and they meet from time to time.

Chandler Muriel Bing was played by Matthew Perry. He was always making sarcastic comments. At first, he was afraid of getting engaged but everything changed in season five when he started dating Monica. After Friends, Perry continued to appear on TV shows. In addition, he spoke candidly about his substance abuse issues. 

During Friends, Perry became addicted to pain relievers. As a result, he lost a lot of weight and joined rehab in 1997. Since then, he has made efforts to focus on sobriety. 

In August 2018, he revealed that he had been hospitalized for several months. It was after undergoing his gastrointestinal surgery. Perry alarmed his fans when he tweeted that he had been kicked out of therapy. Then he clarified it by writing that easy guys, it was just one session. He is back in therapy where he belongs. 

Perry played Ted Kennedy on The Kennedys After Camelot. He also made an appearance in the Mr. Sunshine, Go On, and The Odd Couple. 

Perry became the last of six main casts of Friends to join Instagram. He joined it in February 2020 to delight his co-stars and fans. Recently, he appeared in the Friends Reunion. 

Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay 

 

Phoebe Buffay in Friends is known for her incredibly catchy song named Smelly Cat. Also, she had a quirky sense of style. Phoebe worked as a masseuse and played guitar at Central Perk when the big six used to grab a coffee. She had a twin sister named Ursula who briefly dated Joey. Phoebe had failed relationships like Ross but she ended up marrying Mike Hannigan played by Paul Rudd. 

Kudrow is now an actor, writer, and producer. After Friends, she played roles in films like P.S. I Love You, Easy A, Neighbors, and The Train Girl. She also made an appearance as Congressman Josephine Marcus in episodes of ABC’s Scandal. Kudrow has voiced the characters such as BoJack Horseman and The Boss Baby. She played the role of Lori-Anne Schmidt in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In Grace and Frankie, she played the role of Sheree. 

In addition, she was a guest on The Good Place. She has starred and created in the showtime series such as Web Therapy that lasted for four seasons and was nominated for Primetime Emmy. Her recent appearance was on Netflix’s Space Force with Steve Carell. Another not to miss is Feel Good. 

Kudrow opened up about her struggles with body image by saying that she felt like a mountain of a woman while sitting next to her co-stars Cox and Aniston. 

Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani

 

Joey Tribbiani, a struggling actor in the series was not the smartest person in the group. In the series, he was a womanizer and had an obsession with food. His favorite foods were pizza and meatball sandwiches. Also, he had a great obsession with Monica’s cooked food. the signature pickup line of Joey was How You Doin’?

For most of the series, Joey shares an apartment with Chandler Bing. One of the most memorable props in their apartment is the Magna Doodle magnetic drawing toy, which was primarily used by the characters and the crew of the TV show to display messages that are connected to an episode’s plot or to simply show funny phrases on the drawing board. After Friends, LeBlanc got a spinoff series named Joey. This series did not enjoy the success of its predecessor and it lasted for only two seasons. His recent role was on the CBS sitcom named Man With A Plan that lasted for four seasons. Also, he played the role of Lucy Liu’s on-screen boyfriend in Charlie’s Angles: Full Throttle. 

Since then, LeBlanc has been featured on Kudrow’s Web Therapy. His role in the Episodes show ran from 2011 to 2017. It earned him a Golden Globe victory for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy or Musical TV Series. Also, he co-hosted the UK show named Top Gear from 2016 to 2019.

Friends have been one of the popular and iconic sitcoms during the mid-1990s. To date, it is still popular among sitcom fans. The big six casts and plot of this sitcom revolves around six friends who live in New York. They struggle to find stable jobs during their 20s and reach their 30s during the span of 10 seasons.
