MTV Offers Backstage VMA Look – Live. What Does Beyonce Do Before She Goes On Stage? It was August 2006 When MTV…

Mr. Pop History -

In August of 2006, MTV’s Video Music Awards offered a first – realtime backstage glance at the happenings – streamed online. “What does Beyonce do before she goes onstage,” said Christina Norman, MTV’s then president. “Does she pray? Does she cry? Does she check her makeup?” (does she wipe her…)

This was available on the MTV Overdrive website. Remember, MTV was the one that pioneered the idea of presenting pre-show before the VMA’s. That was back in 1990.

So you wanted to know when and where this stuff comes from.

Howard Stern Gets Fooled… Pop. Culture. History.

Q: Howard Stern once ran a “tape” saying it was singer Beyonce. The sound was awful – and it was later revealed the tape was fake. Stern had been tricked. When was this?

Mr. Pop History – It was last year – 2009. The Stern folks thought they had another scoop, a pro singer who really sounded lousy (sometimes). This time, it just wasn’t true. From the last week of April, 2009:

“A reportedly doctored recording of Beyonce Knowles sounding out of tune at a ‘Today Show’ appearance last year, which shock-jock Howard Stern played on his Sirius radio show on Wednesday, is a fake, according to a man who told TMZ he made it. ‘It’s a little bit crazy. No one in their right mind would sound like that, and no one would cheer for someone singing like that,’ the unnamed alleged audio-perp said.”

Again, like TMZ and others – the race to get the edge sometimes can be, well, just the opposite.

Mrl Pop Culture Report – April 6

Airline Trend - Spirit Airlines will charge as much as $45 each way for a carry-on bag, adding a fee that bigger airlines have yet to try. The charge will apply to bags in the overhead bin. Personal items that fit under the seat will still be free. The new charge is $45 if paid at the gate, and $30 if paid in advance and begins Aug. 1. Spirit says a new fare reduction means most customers won’t really pay more to fly. It says having fewer carry-on bags will help empty the plane faster. Spirit also charges to check luggage.

More Ipad - Users who rushed to snap up Apple’s iPad are complaining within days of the slate computer’s highly anticipated release that they’re having trouble connecting it to the Internet. On Apple’s technical support Web site, there were 11 pages of comments Tuesday morning on a post saying Wi-Fi connections were weak or kept cutting out.

“Add me to the list with problems! I’m very disappointed that there’s no solution either,” one user wrote. “Does anyone think this can be fixed with an update, or should I just get a refund while there’s time?”

Password scam on Facebook – “There’s another spoofed email going around that claims to be from Facebook and asks you to open an attachment to receive a new password,” read a post on the Facebook Security page. “This email is fake. Delete it from your inbox, and warn your friends.” Facebook will never send users a new password in an attachment, the post says. The messages claim to be from Facebook, with a return address that looks legitimate.

The Lady Is A Gaga - Music producer Rob Fusari filed the $30.5 million lawsuit in Manhattan against Lady Gaga (Stefani Germanota) – the Grammy Award-winning performer. He said his protege and former girlfriend ditched him as her career soared. The suit says they co-wrote songs such as “Paparazzi” and “Beautiful, Dirty, Rich.” Fusari also says he came up with her stage name and helped get her record deal. Gaga won two Grammys in January: best dance recording, for “Poker Face,” and best electronic/dance album, for “The Fame.”

Gaga For Beyonce’s new perfume – After just one month on the shelves, the 28-year-old singer’s first fragrance, Heat, has earned $3 million in sales! Last year – the average celebrity fragrance earned roughly $2.5 million over the entire year according to a NY paper.

Days Gets More Lives – “Days of Our Lives”  – has been renewed for a 45th season, which will run on NBC through 2011. “The producers, cast and crew have worked tirelessly to make Days the ratings success it is today,” Bruce Evans, NBC’s senior vice president of drama programming, said in a statement. “Today’s renewal is a true testament to all of their hard work. We could not be more delighted for them and for the multiple generations of fiercely loyal Days of Our Lives fans.” This in light of the recent CBS cancellation of “As The World Turns” – TV’s longest running soap opera.

The surprisingly huge total easily surpassed all other films in release and gave Walt Disney Studios an even bigger opening than that of the hugely popular 3-D film “Avatar.” It also marked the biggest opening weekend for a non-sequel.

Brad Paisley is recovering after he tripped on stage and took a tumble during a concert in South Carolina.Spokeswoman Darlene Bieber said in a news release that the country star was singing his encore finale – “Alcohol” – when he fell Saturday night, but he got back up and finished his show. He was checked out at a Charleston hospital and released early Sunday morning.Paisley was left with only some bad bruises, but he wrote on his Twitter page that he “hit hard. And I mean freaking hard.”

Long Island – Millions of cable subscribers faced the prospect of Oscar night without the Academy Awards broadcast Sunday after ABC’s parent company switched off its WABC-TV signal to Cablevision customers and the two companies blasted each other for failing to reach a deal in a dispute over fees. In dueling statements dispatched early Sunday, the two companies traded blame for the stalemate ahead of one of the most-watched nights of television. “Cablevision has once again betrayed its subscribers,” said Charissa Gilmore, a spokeswoman for the Walt Disne Co. and ABC Television Group, in a statement. “Cablevision pocketed almost $8 billion last year, and now customers aren’t getting what they pay for … again.”

Obama Ball To Be The Hot Pop Spot Next Week

Obama Ball The Pop Hot Spot as Beyonce will provide the vocal styling for Barack and Michelle Obama’s first dance on inauguration night, but will she perform one of her chart topping hits? Our guess is that Beyonce will perform a new or a variation of one of her songs to fit the occasion.

Beyonce has expressed her desire to be a part of the inauguration since Obama was elected and she told a reporter in November: “Whatever they want — if they need me to volunteer, they need me to sing, I’m there, and I’m ready.” The singer and actress will also perform at the Neighborhood Ball on ABC along with Jay-Z, Will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Sting, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder and Maroon 5. Jessica Alba, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kate Walsh will be presenters at the ball.
