Jordan is placed under martial law by a new military government. The area is
torn by fighting between King Hussein’s army and Palestinian guerrillas.
In a nationally televised speech,
President Nixon
warns
college students of terror and violence and that the rule of
law must be upheld. “...Those who bomb universities who
ambush policemen, who hijack airplanes and hold their
passengers hostage all hare in common - not only a
contempt for human life but also a contempt for those
elemental decencies on which a free society rests - and
they deserve the contempt of every American who values
those decencies.”
Appearing at a $100-a-plate dinner at the Sahara In Las
Vegas, Vice President
Spiro Agnew
says some songwriters
and movie producers are brainwashing young Americans
with their content. Citing “With A Little Help From My
Friends” by The Beatles - Agnew says, “it’s a catchy tune,
but until it was pointed out to me, I never realized that the
friends were assorted drugs.”
Three employees of radio station WIYN in Rome, Georgia
take an unexpected LSD trip after downing soft drinks sent-
in by a listener. They believe the 10 pop bottles were sent in
baby a listener who didn’t like what was aired on the station’s comment program.
The three were a newsman, the program director and a secretary. All three had
hallucinations; saw all sorts of colors - even numbness. They’re in good condition
after being hospitalized.
Peter Masefield of the British Airports Authority says that woman wearing metal
bras are delaying flights in and out of London because they’re tripping security
devices at the gates. He said more and more woman are wearing the metal-
reinforced bras.
RCA announces a new line of computers to compete with a new line introduced
by IBM last June. Chairman and President Robert W. Sarnoff says the new line is
in step for RCA to become #2 in computers behind IBM. The new computers are
designated RCA 2,3, 6 and 7 and sell between $700 thousand and $1.68 million.
You can lease them per month between $15,400 and 36,300 per month.

Thieves steal most of the equipment in Frank Sinatra Jr’s band near Reno. Most
of the equipment was amps and speakers, sitting on an open stage.

particularly pretty. Men never notice her in a crowd or
whistle at her when she walks down the street. Yet some
of the world’s most exciting males consider her to be the

Hendrix
(24) - in a
London hospital of a
drug overdose. He
was admitted at
11:45am and died
about an hour later. His girlfriend found him in
a coma and called the ambulance. The rock
star just finished a tour of England, performing
last month at the Isle of Wight festival. He was
Billboard Magazine’s “artist of the year” in
1968 and Playboy magazine’s “artist of the
year” in 1969. Hendrix was one of rock’s
highest paid stars.
Peter Yarrow
of “Peter, Paul & Mary” is sentenced to three
months in jail. He pleads guilty to taking indecent liberties with a
14-year-old girl last August. He’ll serve probation after the term.
His wife, Mary Beth, is the niece of Senator Eugene McCarthy.
Singer Harry Belafonte (43) is arrested in Chatham, NY - charged
with taking $8 worth of groceries from an A&P supermarket. Later,
the store dropped the charges, saying the event was a
misunderstanding. Belafonte bolted from the store with a bag of groceries
(without paying), when he discovered his blind father-in-law had departed without
him.
New - Sony introduces “Trinitron” Sony color TV. The first model has a 9” picture
and sells for $309.95.

According to Britain’s leading music publication “Melody Maker”- The Beatles
have slipped to second place in a reader’s poll. Led Zeppelin tops the list. The
most popular British singer is Robert Plant of Zeppelin.
The FDA discloses that about a million “Oh Henry” candy bars might be
contaminated with Salmonella. Production is halted on the bar and the candy has
been recalled.

movies - I’m going to make people want to come to see them.”
