An Afghan teenager fatally stabbed an American soldier in the neck as he played with children in eastern Afghanistan, officials said Monday, as the U.S. death toll rose sharply last month with an uptick in fighting due to warmer weather. Just one U.S. service member was killed in February — a five-year monthly low — but the American death toll climbed to at least 14 last month.

President Barack Obama has apologized to California Attorney General Kamala Harris for causing a stir when he called her "the best-looking attorney general" at a Democratic fundraiser they attended together this week. A spokesman for Harris said she had a great conversation withObama and strongly supports him but would not say whether she had accepted the president's apology.

After a lifelong battle with mental illness, the youngest son of Pastor Rick Warren has committed suicide, his family said. Matthew Warren, 27, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday, said Deputy Daniel Aikin, with the Orange County Coroner's Office. The family shared news of his death in an e-mail to church staff. Rick Warren and his wife founded Saddleback Valley Community Church, a megachurch in Southern California.

A young American woman was killed Saturday in Afghanistan in what is believed to be the first killing of a U.S. diplomat since a  in Benghazi, Libya. Anne Smedinghoff, 25, was delivering books to a school, along with a U.S. civilian from the Defense Department, when a bomb struck their convoy in Zabul province in southern Afghanistan. The civilian's name has not been released.

With a successful flight this week, Boeing moved closer to proving that a revamped safety system can prevent batteries on its new 787 Dreamliner from catching fire or overheating, and getting back the plane into service. Friday's test flight concludes testing after little more than three weeks, and moves the Dreamliner closer to resuming passenger flights, restarting jet deliveries, and stemming millions of dollars in losses that have piled up at airlines and Boeing since the jet was grounded more than two months ago

Research firm NPD says that in Q4 online services including Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Spotify accounted for about 23% of the average weekly music listening time among 13-to-35 year olds, up from 17% at the end of 2011. The latest figure is just about even with AM/FM radio: It accounted for 24% of the music listening time among young fans, down two percentage points from the previous year. The change is “driven by mobility and connectivity” — especially the growing use of smartphones as music devices — says Russ Crupnick, senior vice president of industry analysis at NPD.

Samsung, the world's largest technology company by sales, has produced some jaw-dropping results for the first quarter. In its preliminary financial update for the first quarter, the South Korean tech giant announced sales Friday of approximately 52 trillion won ($46 billion), up 15% from a year ago. Samsung's operating profit of 8.7 trillion won ($7.7 billion) rose 53% from the first quarter of 2012.

MTV's controversial reality show "Buckwild" bad news as one of its stars, Shain Gandee, was found dead on Monday morning, the network confirms. The 21-year-old's body was discovered in his Ford Bronco in Sissonville, West Virginia, around 11:30 a.m., alongside the dead bodies of his uncle, David Gandee, and a third unidentified person.

HBO's mythical drama "Game of Thrones" set a record for modern-day piracy after its Sunday night premiere, as viewers around the globe scrambled to watch the season 3 debut episode that aired on the premium cable network. Piracy tracker TorrentFreak says that  downloaded the episode in the first day after it aired. At one point, more than 163,000 people were simultaneously sharing a single torrent -- a new record. The previous record, of just under 145,000 simultaneous file-swappers, was set by the "Heroes" season 3 debut in 2008, according to TorrentFreak's data.

Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert is taking a "leave of presence" from some of his duties after a recurrence of his cancer. The 70-year-old critic  Tuesday that a recent hip fracture he suffered last December "has been revealed to be a cancer," and he is receiving radiation treatment. "What in the world is a leave of presence?" he wrote. "It means I am not going away."  The Rolling Stones announced a 2013 tour, as close to a full-fledged 50th anniversary "50 and Counting" tour as "the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band” could muster, opening in May in Los Angeles. Singer , guitarists ,  and former Stones member , drummer and their band mates will play a run of shows in North America and  in May and June, including a second Southland date May 15 at the  in Anaheim. Other cities on the itinerary include Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, Toronto, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia.

James Brown, the late, lamented singer and songwriter, is getting his own official YouTube channel and online site, thanks to a collaboration between home entertainment company Shout! Factory and the James Brown Estate. The channel and website debut Friday and will include a treasure trove of rare concert footage, such as Brown's 1968 Boston concert following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
