Russian soldiers plunge into western Georgia to open a second front in the 4-day-old war.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is jailed after he violated the conditions of his bond in a perjury case by gong to Canada for a business meeting without clearing the trip with the court.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticizes former Democrat Joe Lieberman for campaigning against Sen. Barack Obama, calling the Connecticut senator’s characterizations of the presumptive democratic presidential nominee “totally irresponsible.”

After spending a night in jail, Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick is released and now faces two new felony charges that he shoved a Sheriff’s Department investigator last month.

President Mikheli Saakashvilli of Georgia said he would accept a Russian cease-fire agreement to end a five-day conflict. Under the deal, Georgia would give up claim to two regions seeking independence.

 New Obama book – “Change We Can Believe In: Barack Obama’s Plan to renew America’s Promise” is coming out Sept. 9.

Drugstore chain CVS Caremark Corp. – the largest provider of prescription in the country, says it will acquire Longs Drug Stores Corp. for about $2.6 billion.

Mortgage finance giant Fannie Mae reports a $2.3 billion second-quarter loss, slashes its dividend and says it will stop buying or guaranteeing loans made to people who supply little proof of income.

 Drama Family Entertainment is suing for copyright infringement because Mary J. Blige’s “Growing Pains” album contains the song “Work That” which the suit says, was created by a producer who worked for the company at the time.

Usher’s mother, Jonetta Patton, is back as his manger following a split. He broke with her in 2007, saying he just wanted her to be his mom. Usher dumps celebrity manager Benny Median.

MTV sat night – Best Dance Crew, Run’s House, Jonas Brothers, Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best dance Crew.

A two-hour “Batlestar Galactica” special will air after the final 10 new episodes air on Sci Fi.
