President Bush visits a border area near Yuma, Arizona – an area where arrests and death have gone up from those trying to cross into the U.S. from Mexico. Saying, “We do not have full control of the border,” Bush told reporters that 6,000 National Guard troops were needed to help secure the border while Border Patrol is beefed up during the next several years.
The U.S. officially bans all arms sales to Venezuela – accusing President Hugo Chavez of not cooperating with Washington’s anti-terrorism efforts. As his defense trial begins – Saddam Hussein refused to enter a plea of formal charges.
Hamas official Sami abu Zuhri gets caught trying to smuggle more than $800,000 in euros into the Gaza Strip. Hamas doesn’t care about a veto by the Palestinian Authority – and deploys a new police force made-up of Palestinian militant groups in Gaza.
Iraqi’s new government is now in office – ending a five-month deadlock.
Nagin wins mayor runoff over Mitch Landrieu – Then mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans called for unity, saying it’s “time for this community to start the healing process, It’s time for us to set the stage for recovery.”

Looks like Bill Clinton will write a second book as his first, “My Life,” sold millions. Clinton says his next book came from the experiences he has had in work and travel, since he left the White House.
