U.S. Marines conclude their offensive operation in western Iraq, where guerrillaswere pushed out of villages and towns and many were killed. 39 were captured. 

Newsweek damage as the White House calls for the magazine to do more to repair the damage to America’s image in Muslim nations - after an article about U.S. interrogators desecrating the Koran at Guantanamo Bay. Newsweek had earlier retracted the article, which said that a U.S. interrogator flushed a copy of the Koran down the toilet.
