Florida  - The first presidential debate – at Coral Gables. Both George W. Bush and John Kerry clashed over the war in Iraq with Kerry saying it was a costly diversion from more serious threats.

Snap polls say that John Kerry was the winner of the first presidential debate.  That president Bush faltered.

A series of suicide bombings in Iraq takes the lives of 35 children.

A CIA report says Saddam Hussein did not produce or did not posses weapons of miss destruction – as much as 10 years or more before the U.S. invaded Iraq. Not since the early 1990’s.

The House rejects a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. Republicans say the issue is far from over.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is in the hospital for treatment of an irregular heartbeat.
