President Clinton vetoes a spending bill – just after House Republican leaders scuttled a bipartisan agreement on education funding.
President Clinton, noting that a woman is beaten in America every 12 seconds, signed legislation reinforcing the violence Against Women Act by covering women abused by their boyfriends, helping battered immigrant women and attacking international traffic inhuman beings.
President Clinton said that a Republican victory next month could move the Supreme Court “way to the right’ and lead to a new era of “ultraconservative judicial activism.”

Sony launches its PlayStation 2 console in the U.S. It’s already a hit in Japan, having sold 3 million.
Music News – October 22, 2000
VH-1 airs the Equality Rocks concert for gay civil rights. Melissa Etheridge hosts with performances by the Pet Shop Boys, k.d.lang, Chaka Kahn. Tipper Gore also makes an appearance, as does Ellen Degeneres.

The ad industry has agreed to two major demands from SAG and AFTRA - they are… rate of payments to actors for advertising on cable-TV and cable-TV stations and ads made for the Internet.
