Iraq announces that it was ending all cooperation with United Nations weapons inspectors.
Officials are saying that hurricane/tropical storm Mitch could have left as many as 7,000 dead in Central America
Election – The Democrats win key Senate seats in New York and the South.
Rep. Newt Gingrich announces he would not run for reelection as House Speaker, saying he can no longer be an effective leader of the party.
Rep Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) – chairman of the House Judiciary Committee asks President Clinton to admit or deny a litany of key allegations that he committed perjury or obstructed justice in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
President Clinton sounds a more aggressive note against Iraq saying that Baghdad must comply immediately with U.N. demands and the military force is a live option.
The United States indicts Saudi militant Osama bin laden and his top military commander in 224 counts of conspiracy to commit murder for their alleged involvement in the August bombings at U.S embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. U.S. officials offered a $5 million reward for information leading the suspect’s capture.
Paul Corbin Jones – in front of TV cameras, accepts a $1 million check from New York real estate mogul Abe Hirschfield. It should help both sides complete negotiations and make her go away.
Technology News – November 1, 1998
Nintendo of American Inc. beat out rival Sony for the initial rights to video games based on the first of the three new “Star Wars” movies.
Real Networks announces new technology for building sophisticated online radio stations. It’s called “Radio Toolkit” and Rolling Stone magazine will be the first to use it.
HDTV has now become a reality in the United States – after about two decades in the lab. ABC is airing “101 Dalmations” in HDTV this week – one of 11 movies ABC will air in HDTV this year. CBS is producing four NFL games in HDTV – the first to be aired Nov. 8 and CBS will air a “Chicago Hope” in HDTV November 18. But, officially – HDTV was kicked off last Thursday, Oct. 29 when a special news feed of John Glenn’s space reunion which aired on 20 stations nationwide. Prices of HDTV sets run about $7000 and up!

Debuting on CBS-TV this week – the new video by Celine Dion and R. Kelly called “I’m Your Angel.” Also Celine Dion gets her first U.S. TV special. Don’t miss “These Are Special times” on Nov. 25.
