 Lisa Marie Presley sues the National Enquirer over a June 17 article titled “Lisa Marie Suicide Drama” - contending it contains numerous false statements.

Bill Cosby testifies that he made secret payments over the years to the woman who claims to be his daughter. Prosecutors are charging she tried to extort $40 from him. Cosby said he gave her $100,000.

 

Television news – July 15, 1997

8 months ago, the folks from Conan O’Brien’s show signed a deal with Mercury Records for an album culled from musical performances on the show. Turns out since, Dave Letterman is doing the same thing. Conan says his album will be different. 

Katey Segal signs a deal with CBS to develop a new series for 1998.

An actor playing Barney the dinosaur suffers smoke inhalation when a cooling fan inside his 60-pound suit shorts out during a taping of the Barney show in Dallas. No fire, but the actor breathed-in smoke in while trying to jettison the costume.
