Israeli and Palestinian negotiators say they have completed their agreement for Israel’s withdrawal from most of the West Bank city of Hebron.

An Israeli soldier sprays fire in Hebron’s Arab market with M-16 automatic rifle, and wounds seven Palestinians in an attempt to sabotage the hand-over of this West Bank city to Palestinian rule. 

Two Riverside County (CA) sheriff’s deputies are shot to death when they responded to a report of domestic violence near Palm Springs.

The nation’s abortion rate drops to its lowest level in 18 years. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention say 21 of every 1,000 women age 15 to 44 had an abortion in 1994, the smallest number since 1976.

Politically Correct - Disneyland is making changes to its popular “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride. Instead of some of the pirates chasing skirts, chased ladies will be holding trays.

Mattel Inc says it is pulling its Cabbage Patch Snacktime Kids from the market after reports that the dolls chomped on the hair and fingers of dozens of children.

Television news – January 1, 1997

 Tisha Campbell, co-star of Fox’s “Martin” is gone from the show. She claims star Martin Lawrence sexually harassed her and that conditions on the set were “intolerable.” She is now filing a suit against Lawrence and the show’s producers.

UPN and the WB, now on three nights, say they will be at four nights per week within the next year.

Tom Arnold will get life again – his third TV series is set for the WB network. A name has not been chosen.
