The Clinton Administration unveils a $242.6-billion Pentagon budget for fiscal 1997 that calls for further cuts in defense spending. GOP lawmakers are denouncing the proposal.

In Michigan  - Charged with helping tow people commit suicide in 1993, retired pathologist Jack Kevorkian portrayed himself to jurors as a deeply compassionate doctor who tries to talk his suffering patients out of suicide and sheds tears when they choose death anyway.
