A major blizzard sweeps into the Eastern seaboard – and at least 49 are dead. An area from Alabama to Ohio out to New York, Boston and Baltimore was affected.
A report based on tower logs says that during a six-month stretch in 195, radar systems at the new Denver International Airport broke down 135 of the 181 days it was operational.
Passing – Francois Mitterrand – former leader of France. He was 79.
President Clinton told a White House news conference that he deeply resents an article by New York Times columnist William Safire calling First Lady Hillary “a congenital liar.” The President later said that Republicans so far have failed to prove allegations that First Lady Hillary misrepresented the truth.
Oh boy – They gambled and lost. Manhattan car dealership Potamkin Auto Centers made an offer - to clear out December’s inventory by offering customers free leases on luxury cars if it snowed heavily on January 8. The dealership promised that all cars leased between Dec. 22 and Jan. 2 would be free for the life of the lease if more than 4 inches of snow fell between 10a and 10 in Central Park on Jan. 8. It’ll cost the dealer about $1 million. Some 20 inches fell!

A new report that the Clinton’s are approaching personal bankruptcy is acknowledged by President Clinton. A new report in Money magazine said the Clinton’s legal bills have surpassed $2 million, while private contributions to his defense fund have amounted to about $865,000. The latest figures show they owe $1.6 million and are worth about $700,000.
President Clinton visits Bosnia and praised American forces in Bosnia as “warriors for peace.”
