Going… Going… Gone/No hits, no runs, no eras and no one left on base… As the baseball season is cancelled. Owners say the failure to reach a bargaining accord and the 34-day player’s strike made it impossible to continue the season.

In a televised speech, President Clinton delivers a blunt message to Haiti’s military dictators – “Your time is up. Leave now or we will force you from power.”

President Clinton, dispatches a delegation headed by Jimmy Carter to Haiti in order to persuade its military dictators to relinquish power.  

A delegation led by former President Jimmy carter meets with Haiti’s top military leaders to persuade them to step aside rather than face an invasion by the huge U.S. force poised offshore. It’s what President Clinton is calling “one last best effort.”

Thousands of U.S. troops swarm into Port-Au-Prince, Haiti to begin a military occupation designed to restore democracy to the troubled Caribbean nation.

President Clinton announces a breakthrough in Haiti as the Jimmy Carter mission negotiates a deal under which exiled Jean-Bertrand Aristide will resume the presidency. The military junta will receive an amnesty from Parliament (but some believe this could take time). 

A jury in Alaska orders Exxon Corp. to pay $5 billion, roughly what the company makes in a year, as punishment for its recklessness in causing the oil spill at Prince William Sound in 1989.

Prevention Magazine says two-thirds of U.S. children fail its Children’s Health Index. Children still eat too much fat and sugar and, instead of working off the calories, watch enough TV to steal two months out of each year. 

Bankruptcy sale – Western Union is bought by First Financial Management Corp. for $1.153 billion.

Apple Computer reveals plans to license its technology and permit other companies to make clones of the Macintosh personal computer. Apple is struggling against the Intel-Microsoft juggernaut. Many say, this should have been done years ago.

Three part “Gay In America” airs on NBC Nightly News With Tom Brokaw this week.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air begins its fifth season. Will helps Ashley with her singing career in a two-parter.

This week – “Dateline NBC” becomes the first major network TV newsmagazine to air three nights a week. It now airs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Music news – September 15, 1994

Kermit the Frog’s “Kermit Unplugged” is now in stores.

 Johnny Depp stars in and directs a new video for Shane MacGowan, formerly of the Pogues. The video “That Woman’s Got Me Drinking,” features Depp as a drunken customer telling his troubles to barman MacGowan. 

 Lead singer Michael Stipe of R.E.M. signs a two-year deal with New Line Cinema to produce and develop feature films.

Tupac Shakur pleads not guilty in Los Angeles after being indicted for an alleged weapons violation. Shakur also co-stars with Janet Jackson in the film “Poetic Justice.”

Tupac Shakur pleads guilty in Lansing, Mich to charges he tried to hit another rapper with a baseball bat. The incident prompted a fight during an April 1993 concert at Michigan State University.

Radio news – September 15, 1994

New technology – “Coupon Radio.” Some stations are testing the technology which downloads offers from an RDS radio onto a radio card. The card is then brought into a retail location where the data is turned-into a coupon.

Westwood One will be offering “The Richard Simmons” show to radio stations – five nights a week beginning in January.
