New Palestinian state? - Secretary of State Warren Christopher says that he will travel to Jericho this week. He’ll meet with the newly established Palestinian self-governing authority. The trip aims to movie-along the peace process. 
The French maker of RU-486 (abortion pill) donates its patent rights to a nonprofit group. It’s a move the hopes to speed-up approval of the pill in the U.S.
Combat inflation – The Fed raises interest rates a half-point. 

Jackie Kennedy Dies

 The family of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis gathers at her bedside as the former First Lady suffers serious complications her fight against cancer. She has been undergoing chemotherapy since January, when she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The hospital denied a published report that Onassis had taken a serious turn for the worst, saying her prognosis was excellent.  
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, the first lady of First Ladies dies of cancer at 64. At her side in her 5th Avenue apartment were daughter Caroline Kennedy Schlossbert, son John F. Kennedy and her longtime companion Maurice Templesman. 

Sports news – May 15, 1994

Dick Motta – the original coach of the Dallas Mavericks, returns to coach the team – the worst in the NBA. 
Shane Stant, who hit skater Nancy Kerrigan above the knee and his uncle Derrick Smith, who drove the getaway car, are sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit assault. Tanya Harding only received three years’ probation for her part in the cast. 
Tennis star Jennifer Capriati is arrested on a marijuana possession charge after police showed up at her Coral Gables hotel room.

Television news – May 15, 1994

ABC celebrates 40 years that includes highlights from family comedies and other categories. 
Stephen King’s four-part “The Stand” grabs top ratings for ABC – and the largest ratings for any ABC miniseries in eight years. 
The Triangle Network – the first national cable network featuring gay and lesbian programming will launch June 25. 
Passing – Henry Morgan – TV personality of the 1950’s. He was 79. 
The two-hour “Melrose Place” finale drew the show’s highest ratings, with the much talked-about kiss between to gay characters. 
Deborah Norville has a summer tryout show – a magazine show titled “American Tonight.” It’ll air Wednesday nights. 
Tom Arnold appears on “Live with Regis and Kathy Lee” to tell the world he still loves his wife, Roseanne, in spite of her second divorce filing. 
NBC and the USA network will use John McEnroe as a commentator during the French open.   

Music news – May 15, 1994

Interesting survey says that in-store record play sells more product than MTV influence. 10% of respondents credit in-store video/audio play with influencing their decision to purchase something. 6% credited MTV or VH-1 video shows as influencing their purchasing decisions. 
Pearl Jam says it will only wait 9 months to release their next album. Look for it this summer. 
 Naomi Judd will make her TV series-acting debut on this week’s “Sisters” on NBC. 
MTV talent Jon Stewart is being wooed to fill Aresnio Hall’s late night talk show. 
MTV VJ Adam Curry walked off the set of the channel’s “Top 20 Countdown.” a few weeks ago. 
VH-1 is set to broadcast its first live concert. “VH-1 Honors,’ will highlight the good works and popular music of Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bolton, Melissa Etheridge, Al Green, Kenny G and the artist formerly known as Prince. Look for it June 26.  
2 Live Crew rapper Luther Campbell is arrested in Miami and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly aiming a gun at a woman in his Miami Lakes home and threatening to kill her. 

Radio news – May 15, 1994

USA Today reports that San Francisco attorney Michael Blend is suing Rush Limbaugh for allegedly breaking his promise to pay $1 million to any listener who heard him make an anti-Semitic remark. Blend thinks he did, and says Limbaugh breached his contract. 
 WestWoodOne launches “The Tom Leykis Show. It’s being fed 6-10p eastern time. Also from WW1 – “The David Brenner Show” is set to debut in June. 
Leykis says, “My goal is to be on FM as much as possible. The Show would work on a classic rock station. Many stations fall off the bar graph after 7pm. If shows like ‘LoveLine’  and ‘LovePhones’ can work at night, why couldn’t this?”
Larry King will no longer to a separate syndicated radio. Instead his CNN “Larry King Live” will be syndicated to radio stations beginning June 6.
