February - Sonny Bono sues his wife Cher for more than $24 million charging she conspired with recording executive David Geffen and lawyers to defraud him of profits from television, recording and personal appearance agreements. April - Rolling Stone magazine reports that the ABC’s “In Concert” is in trouble and may be canceled. Or it may be reduced to a limited run. “In Concert” was the first network attempt in placing rock on the forefront. Don Kirshner, the show’s first producer, wanted a simulation of the rock concert atmosphere. When Dick Clark took over as producer in 1973 the flavor changed. More acts, split segments - but it looked less like a concert…. Freddie Fender says six months ago, he was a mechanic doing dates on weekends and taking college credits at night. The colonel doesn’t like to fly in big planes… Singer Dionne Warwick sues composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David for $5.5 million claiming they failed to produce two record albums under a contract with Warner Brothers Records. Members of “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” file a court petition to stop ABC-TV from showing an edited version of three of their programs December 26 on “Wide World of Entertainment.” The group claims that an October 3 airing of another three Python programs was “an amazingly bowdlerized and butchered version of what we had done.” “What we liked best about our shows being seen on public television here was that they were exactly as we had made them for the BBC” said Terry Gilliam… The O’Jays cancel the rest of their current tour due to singer Will Powell’s illness, which has been diagnosed as physical exhaustion… Olivia Newton John will begin to tour at the end of February and runs through April…. Update - Promoter Richard Nader’s “World’s Biggest Disco Party” at Madison Square Garden November 29 pulled over 12,000 music lovers. Performing were Ecstasy, Passion & Pain, Gloria Gaynor, Al Downing and the Crown Heights Affair… Buck Reingold, a very determined record promotion man with Casablanca Records - books four seats from LA to New York to transport a 3-foot-long, 150- pound cake for a Donna Summer party. After arrival at Kennedy, Reingold and the cake chartered an ambulance so the cake wouldn’t spoil… Rod Stewart breaks-away from his longtime band “Faces.” Stewart, who cancelled tours to Australia and New Zealand, said the move was taken “after much  deliberation.” Stewart said he can “no longer work in a situation where the group’s lead guitarist, Ron Wood, seems to be permanently on loan to the Rolling Stones”…

Defying a Democratic Congress bent on gasoline rationing, President Ford acts instead to raise consumer fuel costs by signing an executive order to increase tariffs on imported crude oil - by $1 a barrel on Fe 1, $2 on March 1 and $3 on April 1…

January 22 - Calling gas rationing a superficial and inequitable solution to the country’s energy and economic problems, President Ford indicates that he would veto a mandatory rationing program if one were passed by CongressPresident Ford says his long-rang goal was to reversal of long-standing and what her termed misdirected trends in federal economic policy. He told a business group that, among others - he wants to see an end to the proliferation of such federally financed income redistribution programs as food stamps. Social Security and federal retirement benefits…

January - Television news - PBS says that by 1978, its stations could be receiving programs by satellite, instead of over the current system of telephone lines and microwave links…

February – CCTV - Science Trends magazine reports that the U.S Capitol will have a 109 camera TV-system in place by April 1. There are 195 commercial UHF stations and 147 public TV stations. They want TV receivers to get better UHF reception by lowering noise and improved antennas…

August - Television Digest reports that CBS-TV was the most profitable of the three national television networks last year. Profits, before taxes were $110 million, up 24.7% on revenues of $650 million, which were up 30.7%. ABC-TV profits were up 33.5% to $49 million on revenues of $550 million, up 26%. NBC’s 1974 profit of $66 million was up 10% on revenues of $590 million, up 25.2% said the magazine…

September -  First of its kind - Teleprompter Corp. announces plans for a national system of pay cable television and says the service will be available to 870,000 homes. Teleprompter said it signed an agreement with Home Box Office to provide pay cable programs to Teleprompter cable systems throughout the country. Teleprompter Chairman Jack Kent Cooke says the company has signed an agreement with Scientific Atlanta to purchase 24 earth stations needed to pick up the pay cable signal from a space satellite… IBM unveils its first portable computer line – called the 5100. Prices range from $8,975 to $19,975. Slightly bigger then a typewriter, each of the 12 models weighs about 50 pounds. 100 separate programs are available on magnetic tape cartridges …
